In the Kyiv region, 15 specific criminals have already been identified, particularly in Bucha - 10 people.

To date, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has already opened 9,158 criminal proceedings related to purely war crimes. Bringing to responsibility for the seizure of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has begun.

This was announced by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova on the air of the information telethon.

According to the Prosecutor General, every day in Ukraine, there are grounds for opening new proceedings regarding crimes related to the death of civilians, bombing, and deportation of adult civilians and children to the territory of the aggressor state.

"The process of bringing criminals to justice has begun. In those de-occupied places, in Kyiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, we already have identified specific criminals. In general, there are 15 people in the Kyiv region, in particular, in Bucha - 10. They are involved for torture, rape and looting. Also, bringing to justice for the seizure of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has begun," Venediktova said.

The Prosecutor General explained that there are two ways to bring war criminals to real accountability.

"The first way is when the criminals are physical with us as prisoners of war. We act through the Ukrainian court if we have evidence that they raped, killed, and committed other crimes against civilians. The second is if the criminals left our territory or continue to fight, but it is impossible to determine the exact place of their stay. In that case, until we know that they are not alive, we must hold them accountable to demand their arrest. There is an indictment here. We already have 620 suspects, including Russian military, politicians, and well-known propagandists - all of them are in the Russian Federation."

The Prosecutor General added that collecting evidence continues daily, and interrogations of victims and witnesses are being conducted. Professional teams of international specialists and assistant investigators are cooperating with Ukrainian investigators, including French and Slovak experts, and from Lithuania are also expected soon.
