NJSC "Naftogaz of Ukraine" will not extend the transit of Russian gas after the contract expires in 2024. The Chairman of the Board of NJSC "Naftogaz of Ukraine," Oleksiy Chernyshov, announced this in an interview with Radio Liberty.

Chernyshov mentioned that Ukraine is prepared to discontinue gas transit, particularly due to Russia's non-compliance with the terms of the contract.

"Gazprom" does not pay for gas delivery through the "Sokhranivka" gas measuring station (which is effectively in the occupied territory). Therefore, "Naftogaz" does not receive the necessary funding to actually provide the transit services, but it still fulfills its obligations, regardless of initiating legal proceedings against "Gazprom" to fulfill its obligations," Chernyshov stated.

However, Ukraine continues gas transit solely to support its European partners.

"There are no other reasons, but today, we cannot deprive certain European countries, which are our partners, of the opportunity to receive natural gas and prepare for the winter," Chernyshov explained.

The head of "Naftogaz" added that the EU plans to completely phase out the consumption of Russian gas by 2027, so it does not insist on the continuation of Ukrainian transit.

NJSC "Naftogaz of Ukraine" has submitted a Request for Arbitration to the International Arbitration Court at the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, France, regarding the actions of PJSC "Gazprom." The company is seeking payment from Gazprom for the services provided for the transportation of natural gas through the territory of Ukraine, which were not paid in a timely and full manner.
