The Russian military in Transnistria are waiting for reinforcements from the sea, otherwise, they will only be able to shake the situation in Moldova with terrorist attacks or "demonstration actions."
This opinion was expressed by military expert Oleg Zhdanov, on the Ukraine24 YouTube channel.
He clarified that at its widest point, the territory of Transnistria is 34 km. Armed forces of Ukraine in terms of firing range can cover the entire territory of Transnistria:
"Therefore, without reinforcements, the enemy will not be able to break through or inflict military harm on us. From a political point of view, if I were the Russian General Staff, I would capture Moldova," the expert said.
According to Zhdanov's forecast, in the event of a breakthrough of Russian reinforcements into the region, the logical scenario would be the political capture of Moldova, forcing it to capitulate and an agreement with the Russian Federation. The aggressor can then claim the right of servitude.
"There is such a definition in international law: when a country is in an enclave, neighboring states must provide a corridor for communication with this country. This is akin to the situation in Azerbaijan or with the territory of Karabakh, with Armenia. They have bilateral corridors. Most likely, this is exactly the variant of the Russian Federation plans to crank out in Ukraine," the expert said.
He added that the aggressor would not be able to realize his plans as long as the Armed Forces of Ukraine retained control over Snake (Zmeiny) Island, Odessa region. As you know, Russian equipment and personnel are regularly destroyed there thanks to the pinpoint work of Ukrainian defenders.
