President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of the Republic of Korea Won Hee-ryong who heads the delegation of the Korean government and business visiting Ukraine.
The President highly appreciated fruitful development of the bilateral dialogue after visits of First Lady Olena Zelenska to Korea in May and of President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol to Ukraine in July.
Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the Korean delegation for the support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and for adoption of the decisions to provide significant practical assistance to our country.
Volodymyr Zelensky pointed out: “I am grateful for the decision of the government of the Republic of Korea to allocate financial support in the amount of USD 2.3 billion to Ukraine for reconstruction and recovery. This will give a significant boost to the development of the Ukrainian infrastructure”.
The President encouraged representatives of the Korean business to work actively in the Ukrainian market and take part in the implementation of projects in such spheres as development of nuclear and renewable energy, machine building, motor industry, lithium mining, oil refining, “green” metallurgical industry, railway transport, water resources, and local infrastructure.
Volodymyr Zelensky stated: “We are very interested in implementing projects in the sphere of power generation, development and strengthening of transit capacities, in particular, railway transport, development of the rapid railway network for connections with European countries”.
Won Hee-ryong assured of unwavering support of Ukraine by the Republic of Korea in defense of its freedom and sovereignty and pointed out that his visit to Kyiv together with the Korean business was a sign of this support. The Minister voiced his belief that bilateral cooperation might be expanded in different spheres that would be of mutual interest.
He pointed out: “It is heartbreaking for me to witness the Ukrainian people going through these hardships. We support peace and defense of Ukraine’s sovereignty. We also have to counter Russia's illegal invasion”.
The Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Korea on loans from the Economic Development Co-operation Fund (EDCF) was signed in the presence of the President of Ukraine and the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of the Republic of Korea. The Agreement envisions opportunities for the provision of subsidized loans for the implementation of projects in Ukraine with the participation of Korean companies. First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko signed the Agreement on behalf of Ukraine, while Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Ukraine Kim Hyung-tae signed it on behalf of Korea.
