Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Ukraine will not extend the natural gas transit agreement after its expiration at the end of 2024. The Ukrainian prime minister announced this on October 7 during a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Uzhhorod.
“The strategic goal of Ukraine is to impose sanctions on the Russian gas molecule, to deprive the Kremlin of profits from the sale of hydrocarbons that fund the aggressor's war. We call on all European countries to completely abandon oil and gas from the Russian Federation,” Shmyhal noted.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine pointed out that Ukraine understands the acute dependence of some countries, particularly Slovakia, on this resource. However, he hopes for a gradual diversification of supplies.
At the same time, Ukraine is ready to continue fulfilling its obligations under the Association Agreement with the European Union and the Energy Charter Treaty.
