Moldova's strong alliances with Ukraine, Romania, and countries that respect international law can ensure its defense.
This was stated by Moldova's President Maia Sandu on Thursday, April 17, during her speech in the country's parliament, as reported by TV8.md.
"Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, we have been focused on one question: how to ensure Moldova's security? How to protect our people from the devastation of war? From the first day, our position has been clear: we stand for peace, not aggression, and we do everything possible to preserve peace in Moldova through diplomatic means. We can ensure the security of the country by demonstrating predictable and consistent behavior, building reliable partnerships with neighbors—Romania and Ukraine—and other countries that respect international law and state borders," said the President of Moldova.
Sandu also reiterated that the presence of the Russian army in Transnistria is a gross violation of neutrality and a potential threat to destabilize the Republic of Moldova.
"Moldova is a small country, and on its territory is a foreign army. To be clear, this refers to the illegal placement of the Russian military contingent in the Transnistrian region, which is a gross violation of our neutral status. The presence of the Russian army on our land poses risks of destabilization, especially in the context of the war in Ukraine," the President stated.
