"In view of Iran's continued military support for Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, which is contrary to international law, and the fact that Russia is using Iranian-made Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to support the military aggression, the Federal Council decided on 29 September to impose further sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Federal Council has adopted the sanctions imposed by the EU on 20 July as part of its new framework for restrictive measures," the Swiss government announced.

The Swiss Federal Council justified its decision to join the EU sanctions by pointing out that Iran continues to support Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, which contradicts international law, and Moscow continues to use drones of Iranian production.

The sanctions prohibit the sale, supply, export, and transit of components used in the production of drones, as well as imposing targeted restrictions and entry bans for individuals associated with the Iranian drone program.

Switzerland has been adopting EU sanctions lists regarding the supply of Iranian drones to Russia since the autumn of 2022, with the most recent adoption occurring on August 16th.
