Switzerland, known for its neutral stance on any military conflicts, supports the Ukrainian Formula for Peace and is ready to provide mediation services. Ambassador Felix Baumann stated this in an interview with Ukrinform.
"Switzerland supports President Zelensky's initiative regarding the Formula for Peace as a means to achieve a just and lasting peace. We have decided to join the working group on confirming the end of the war, as we believe that Switzerland can contribute or share some experience and expertise in terms of mediating negotiations or legal provisions for a ceasefire," the diplomat said.
He emphasized that Ukraine should decide when to sit down for negotiations with Russia.
"In principle, any armed conflict ends with negotiations, but, of course, in the end, Ukraine will decide when and how it wants to enter into negotiations with Russia. Switzerland is ready to provide its services if the parties wish," Baumann emphasized.
A mediator helps structure the negotiation process, asks the right questions, and supports participants, but at the same time, they do not give advice and try not to influence the substantive side of dispute resolution. The parties to the dispute themselves generate decisions that suit them and that they will then implement. This is precisely the kind of service that Switzerland offers.
