The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, has stated that during his meeting with the Chinese counterpart, he will request him to influence Russia for the sake of moving towards peace in Ukraine.

As reported by ANSA.

Tajani mentioned that he will ask China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, 'to start pressing Putin to take a few steps back in the war against Ukraine, to move towards peace.'

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also added that he considers the upcoming meeting between the presidents of Turkey and Russia, scheduled for Monday in Sochi, as important and necessary. An agreement to bring Russia back into the Black Sea Grain Initiative would be 'a small step toward peace.'

'It's not easy. The war won't end in a few weeks, but we should never rule out diplomatic avenues. So, we should support all initiatives, be it Erdogan's or the Pope's envoy, because diplomatic means can secure a just peace, which means Ukraine's independence, not its capitulation,' Antonio Tajani emphasized.
