On Thursday, the Belgian federal parliament’s Chamber of Representatives adopted a resolution recognizing the 1932-33 famine in Ukrainian, known as the Holodomor and caused by the Stalin regime, as genocide, 7 sur 7 reported. The text received nearly unanimous support – except for the radical left PTB-PVDA faction, which abstained.

"It's done. The Chamber definitively adopted the resolution condemning the crime of Holodomor by 117 votes in favor and 10 abstentions (PTB). Standing applause from the Chamber in the presence of the Ambassador of Ukraine. A first in my career as a parliamentarian," underlined Georges Dallemagne, one of the MPs who initiated the resolution adoption.

A historic voting in House of Representatives: one more state recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people! I’m thankful to Belgium for this important decision for every Ukrainian, for this deeply symbolic step today!
