The Lithuanian Seimas on Thursday adopted a resolution declaring it does not recognize the territories of Ukraine seized by Russia as Russian.

According to LRT, the resolution was supported by 118 members of the Seimas, with no votes against.

"Any seizure of Ukrainian territory by the Russian Federation, whether completed or ongoing, will not be recognized by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania either de jure or de facto," the resolution states.

The document affirms that Ukraine is a sovereign and independent European state with the right to defend itself and independently determine its internal, external, and security policy. Its borders are those recognized by the international community in 1991.

"Today it is crucial not only to end this unjustifiable war and ensure a lasting peace but also to restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity," said Remigijus Motuzas, Chair of the Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee, while presenting the resolution.

He emphasized that it is unacceptable to allow Russia to rewrite or falsify the history of World War II and recent decades.

"Moscow, in preparation for Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, or as it is officially called, the victory over Nazi Germany, has intensified pressure on Ukraine and increased attacks on civilian targets and innocent people," Motuzas added.

He stressed the importance of expressing moral support for Ukraine, particularly as peace negotiations have stalled due to territorial disputes.

The resolution calls on parliaments of other countries to adopt similar declarations and urges governments to take action to ensure that no seizure by Russia is recognized in any form.

The Seimas also reiterated its strong condemnation of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

The Lithuanian parliament reaffirmed its unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and expressed its determination to support all international diplomatic efforts to help Ukraine restore its sovereignty and territorial integrity as soon as possible.
