The former head of the regional department of the SBU was informed of suspicion of treason.
The Office of the Prosecutor General confirmed the detention of the ex-head of the SBU Department in the Kharkiv region, Roman Dudin.
This is stated on the website of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Dudin was informed of suspicion of high treason and unauthorized abandonment of the place of service, committed under martial law (part 1 of article 111, part 5 of article 407 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, on the day of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, February 24, 2022, the head of the SBU department in the Kharkiv region, on his own initiative, began to act to the detriment of the defense capability and state security of Ukraine.
"The suspect interfered with the functioning of the unified command and control system of the security and defense forces and did not carry out the functions and tasks assigned to the SBU in the region to protect state sovereignty, the constitutional order, the territorial integrity of Ukraine. He also committed multi-stage actions aimed at removing the chairman of the Kharkiv regional military administration from the performance of duties," the statement said.
In addition, as a serviceman of the Security Service, being subordinate to the commander of the Kharkiv group of troops, to evade military service duties under martial law, the detainee left his place of service without permission and illegally stayed outside the Kharkiv region.
As noted in the Office of the Prosecutor General, the suspect abstained from carrying out the combat orders of the commander and performing tasks related to the organization of counterintelligence and counter sabotage activities of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region, as well as the participation of this unit in defense of Kharkiv.
Pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings is carried out by investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the SBI. Urgent investigative and procedural actions are currently underway.
On May 29, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky fired the head of the SBU of the Kharkiv region, Roman Dudin, for "not working to protect the city, but thinking only about himself personally." He added that the motives of the head of the SBU of the region would be investigated by law enforcement officers.
