The state police will no longer protect the consulates general of the Russian Federation in Daugavpils and Liepaja; the diplomatic workers of these consulates have been declared undesirable persons in Latvia.

It is reported by LSM.

In April, it was decided to withdraw consent to the work of these general consulates, thus closing the consular offices of the Russian Federation. All expelled employees had to leave the country by April 30.

The decision was made in solidarity with Ukraine.

In early April, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics announced that, given the war crimes of the Russian army in Ukraine, Latvia was narrowing diplomatic relations with Russia by closing its consulates general in Daugavpils and Liepaja. A deadline was also named - it was supposed to happen before April 30. At the same time, it was decided to expel 13 Russian diplomats.
