Latvian President Egils Levits said that it is necessary to deprive the citizenship of people who support Russia's war against Ukraine.
According to him, it is impossible to be neutral in the current situation. Levits said this in an interview with the RTVi channel.
"If a person is neutral, it means that he did not understand the essence of the matter," the President of Latvia said.
According to him, among the Latvian Russians, there is a part "obviously pro-Ukrainian", but there are also those "who have not yet understood what is happening, but are gradually moving towards understanding."
"And one part, what a minority, supports the Russian position. And this means that they are outside the spectrum of democracy," Levits stressed.
The President of Latvia said that those who support Russia's war against Ukraine could be put on the list for deprivation of Latvian citizenship. We are talking, in particular, about the owners of dual citizenship.
"Their citizenship can be taken away. Now there is such a project in the Seimas⦠We need to look at those who express such views that are outside this democratic spectrum, and this is also quite aggressive⦠for example, this concerns jihadists ", - explained the President of Latvia.
It's known that the special services of Russia and Belarus recruit officials in the regions of Latvia, which are located near the eastern border and where NATO forces are deployed.
