The German defense giant Rheinmetall plans to start producing 155-mm artillery shells in Lithuania by mid-2026.

This was reported by LRT.

The new Rheinmetall plant will be located in the town of Baisogala, in the Radviliškis district of Lithuania.

"The plant will begin operations in mid-2026, and after construction is completed, it will be capable of producing tens of thousands of 155-mm artillery shells annually," Rheinmetall representatives said on Friday.

On Friday, Lithuanian government officials and Rheinmetall signed a land lease agreement for the future plant and a contract for the purchase of 155-mm ammunition in Vilnius.
