The Security Service of Ukraine's counterintelligence has detained a Russian intelligence agent who has made a serious career in Ukraine, working for the former president's administration and other government agencies. So the traitor was able to pass on really important information to the enemy.
He admits that since 2014 he has worked for the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. He was recruited by enemy special services after fleeing to Belgorod from Donetsk.
Russian curators chose the pseudonym "Regin" and set him the task of obtaining classified information at the state level.
They even helped to make a career in the Ukrainian authorities to do this. In particular, this agent worked in court, later - in one of the Departments of the Administration of the former president, and after that - even served in the army. Enemy's special services also paid him for training and travel abroad.
In addition to secret information, the traitor collected compromising information about officials of various levels and their relatives - this was to become a lever for their further recruitment by Russian intelligence services.
With the beginning of a large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian intelligence set the agent new tasks - collecting information about law enforcement agencies, the latest weapons and military equipment models, and more.
During the special operation, the Kharkiv Security Service officers intercepted the agent's communication channel, established his whereabouts, and arrested the traitor in the Donetsk region.
During the interrogation, the agent spoke in detail about the instructions he received from the enemy and provided information about people of interest to the Russians and personal data of known members of the Russian agency network in Ukraine.
Appropriate measures are being taken with him to establish the whole chain of traitors and collaborators working for the enemy.
The agent faces life imprisonment.
It should be noted that Russia has recently intensified its deep-seated agents to use them in the war with Ukraine. But the Security Service of Ukraine is effectively counteracting this. Yes, only last week, the SBU exposed a number of such traitors.
