The New York City Council approved the renaming of the avenue in the Brighton Beach district to Ukrainian Way. This was reported by the representative of Ukraine at the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsia, and the relevant decision can also be found on the website of the New York council.
According to Kislytsia, Brighton Beach Avenue and Coney Island Avenue will get the new name - the biggest avenues cross the district inhabited by immigrants from the USSR, mostly Russian-speaking.
The decision in general, provides for the renaming of 78 city toponyms. In the neighborhood of Queens, inhabited by the Thai diaspora, Little Thailand should appear, in Brooklyn - Little Bangladesh. In addition, Beastie Boys square can be found among the new titles.
The document has yet to be signed by New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
