Cyber specialists from the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) detained another covert agent of the FSB (Federal Security Service of Russia) in Kyiv. The agent, a 47-year-old Russian citizen, worked as a sound engineer for a well-known Ukrainian radio station while simultaneously carrying out tasks for the Russian intelligence agency.
According to case materials, the Russian forces recruited the agent to prepare a series of terrorist attacks in central Kyiv. To identify potential targets, the individual was spying on parking locations near administrative buildings of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Between radio recordings, the Russian agent would walk through the central streets of the capital, covertly photographing SUVs he believed were used by Ukrainian military personnel.
For secrecy, he took photos while pretending to speak on the phone, holding it to his ear.
After gathering the information, the spy prepared a "report" for his handler, with whom he communicated via a messaging app.
The Russian intelligence service intended to plant explosives on the "highlighted" vehicles and remotely detonate homemade bombs.
SSU cyber specialists uncovered the Russia's intentions in advance and detained the spy while he was conducting reconnaissance near one of Ukraine's defense ministries.
At the scene, the agent's mobile phone was seized, which he used for communication with the FSB and for covertly photographing targets.
According to the investigation, the Russian had been living in Ukraine's capital for over 10 years, working with various media groups, including those associated with banned pro-Kremlin parties.
In late 2024, an FSB officer, whose identity has been established by the SSU, remotely contacted the agent, recruited him, and began issuing tasks.
The SSU investigators informed the agent of the charges under Article 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information regarding the movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations formed under Ukrainian law, committed during martial law).
The offender is currently in custody. He faces up to 12 years of imprisonment with asset confiscation. Additionally, there are ongoing discussions regarding the further qualification of the suspect's criminal actions.
