Counter-intelligence of the Security Service prevented a series of sabotages on railway infrastructure facilities in the south of Ukraine. As a result of a multi-stage special operation in the Odessa region, an agent of the State Security Service of the Russian Federation (better known as the GRU) was detained.

More than 3 kg of TNT, an anti-tank mine, and detonators were seized from the attacker.

It was established that he collected information on the transportation of military equipment, weapons, ammunition, fuel and lubricants on certain sections of the Odessa railway.

He planned to transfer the information received to the military intelligence of the Russian Federation for the preparation of explosions on the main logistical routes of the Defense Forces in the southern direction.

In order to carry out the enemy's task, the attacker set up two remote camera traps near the railway track in the suburbs of Odessa. These special devices allowed him to monitor the movement of rolling stock in real-time and receive the corresponding photos through a mobile application.

For the conspiracy, the Russian agent constantly changed his appearance and communication channels with his Russian "curator". He also used documents drawn up on fake persons, in particular, a passport of a citizen of Ukraine.

However, it did not help him. Employees of the SSU timely established the whereabouts of the intruder, documented the criminal actions, and detained him while setting up the device for remote monitoring of the railway transport route.

During the detention of the enemy saboteur, a TNT bomb weighing 200 g and another camera trap were found.

In addition, in the course of further investigative actions, the law enforcement officers removed from the cache previously prepared by the perpetrator:

  • 11 TNT checkers;
  • TM-62 mine with detonators.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice turned out to be a former official of one of the district police departments in Odessa. After the start of a full-scale invasion, he was recruited by a representative of the GRU of the Russian Federation to carry out reconnaissance and subversive activities in the region.

A pre-trial investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the enemy agent's subversive activity.
