Cybersecurity experts from the Security Service of Ukraine have detained two Russian agents who adjusted the Russian air strike on Kyiv in the night of September 21st this year.

It was determined that on the eve of this date, the detainees sent coordinates to the Russians for the strike on the city. The main targets of the hostile attack were vital infrastructure objects in the capital, including power generating facilities.

According to the investigation, two local residents who worked for the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation were responsible for directing Russian missiles toward Kyiv.

They came into the focus of Russian military intelligence due to their anti-Ukraine posts on social media, which they shared after the start of the full-scale aggression by the aggressor.

Subsequently, a representative of the Russian GRU remotely recruited both men and tasked them with gathering intelligence on the territory of Kyiv.

Upon the orders of Russian special services, the agents tracked the locations and movements of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the capital region.

To do this, they took to the streets and covertly observed the Ukrainian defenders' deployment points. Additionally, the individuals "in the dark" used their acquaintances to extract the "necessary" information through casual conversations.

In addition, enemy agents would send photographs and geolocations of strategically important energy infrastructure objects to their Russian 'curator.'

To transmit information, the traitors used a messenger, and to mask their communication 'sessions,' they created several anonymous accounts.

For each task completed, the criminals received money from Russia, which was deposited into their bank cards by anonymous 'contributors.'

During searches at the places of residence of both individuals, mobile phones that they used to photograph Ukrainian objects and correspond with the aggressor were confiscated.

Bank cards on which the Russian agents received funds from their 'curator' in the GRU were also found.

At present, the Security Service investigators have informed both detainees of their suspicion under Article 28 Part 2 and Article 111 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed by a group of persons in conditions of martial law).

The criminals are in custody and face life imprisonment.
