The Security Service of Ukraine has detained another FSB agent who operated in Mykolaiv. The suspect was spying on Ukrainian military units defending the port city.
The Russian forces were primarily interested in the locations of Ukrainian Marine Corps bases and logistical centers for weapons and ammunition.
The agent, a former local inmate who had spent nearly 20 years in prison for murder, robbery, and banditry, was recruited by the FSB while still incarcerated. After his release, a FSB officer contacted him through messaging apps and offered him money in exchange for cooperation.
The agent was given a cover for his reconnaissance and sabotage activities. He took a job with a local delivery service and, posing as a courier, used a scooter to monitor military sites in the city and collect information.
He sent the collected data to his Russian handler via messaging apps, including photos, videos, and text descriptions.
The SSU uncovered the traitor in advance, documented his criminal activities, and arrested him "red-handed" while he was scouting near a potential target.
During the search, a mobile phone with evidence of his communication with the Russian forces was seized.
The suspect is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
