The Ukrainian women's national handball team secured a spot in Euro 2024 after drawing against the Slovakian team with a score of 25-25 (15:13, 10:12).
In the final round of the qualification tournament, the Ukrainian team needed to avoid a heavy defeat to finish second in their group. During the first half, the Slovakian team had a close chance of breaking away, leading by as much as 5 goals at one point. However, before halftime, the Ukrainian team managed to stabilize the situation, with Slovakia leading by only 2 goals at the break.
In the second half, the home team tried to extend their lead, but the Ukrainian team stayed close. Eventually, towards the end of the match, the score was leveled. As a result, Ukraine earned 7 points and finished second in the group after Germany (12 points). Slovakia finished third but also qualified for the continental championship as one of the four best third-placed teams in the qualification.
For the Ukrainian team, Euro 2024 will be their first championship since 2014. Overall, the Ukrainian women's team has participated in eleven European championships, with their best result being the silver medal in Euro 2000. The upcoming tournament will be hosted by Austria, Hungary, and Switzerland.
