Ukraine's top tennis player, Elina Svitolina, has company among the top 20 strongest professionals according to the Women's Tennis Association (WTA).
This was reported by the organization's official website.
Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk rose to the 20th spot in the WTA rankings. Meanwhile, her more experienced compatriot dropped to the 19th position.
This achievement of the Ukrainian tennis duo is significant for several reasons. For the first time in the history of professional tennis, two Ukrainian women have entered the top 20 of the WTA rankings simultaneously. Additionally, Kostyuk has achieved a new personal career milestone, reaching her highest-ever position in the professional rankings.
Three other Ukrainian players made it into the top 50 of the rankings. Angelina Kalinina moved up one position to 31st place, while Dayana Yastremska maintained her 33rd position. However, the experienced Lesia Tsurenko dropped three places to 44th.
There were cosmetic changes in the top ten of the rankings as well. Czech player Marketa Vondrousova rose to 6th place, while Greece's Maria Sakkari dropped to 8th. The undisputed leader remains Poland's Iga Swiatek.
