In Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with President of Honduras Nasry Asfura. This is the first visit by the head of this Central American state in the history of bilateral relations and the first meeting between the leaders of Ukraine and Honduras. The President of Ukraine thanked him for the fact that Nasry Asfura, who took office in January 2026, has changed Honduras’ course and supports Ukraine in all important international forums. In particular, on February 24 this year, Honduras voted in favor of the UN General Assembly resolution “Supporting a lasting peace in Ukraine.”
“Ukraine is fighting for the whole world to unite around our independence, around our struggle for independence. For a long time, Ukraine fought for the support of Latin America, Central America, Asia, the Middle East and other countries, important countries and continents,” emphasized Volodymyr Zelensky.
The head of state noted that Ukraine needs support both for its defense, primarily in strengthening air defense, and for its independence at the geopolitical level.
“Every citizen of Ukraine is a hero. They are those who defend principles, values, freedom, democracy, and their beliefs. We support you. We always believe in democracy and freedom,” said Nasry Asfura.
The leaders discussed important areas of bilateral cooperation: the agro-industrial sector, economic cooperation, and digitalization. Honduras is interested in Ukraine’s experience in digital transformation, and Ukraine is ready to help. Honduras is also interested in Ukraine’s defense technologies and drone sector. Nasry Asfura believes it is important to work in all areas where the countries can strengthen each other.

“We will develop these relations. We are very interested in Ukrainian technologies. All the experience Ukraine has in agriculture, in drone production, in all technologies that can be useful in Honduras—we are interested in all of it,” he said.
In addition, the discussion included increasing trade turnover between the countries. According to Volodymyr Zelensky, it is currently small but showing a growing trend, and it is important to develop it further.
Following the meeting, the Presidents of Ukraine and Honduras signed a Joint Statement. The leaders confirmed their interest in strengthening friendly relations between the states, deepening political dialogue, and expanding cooperation in bilateral, regional, and multilateral formats. The presidents emphasized that any diplomatic efforts to achieve peace for Ukraine must be based on respect for the principles of the UN Charter, in particular sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the rule of international law.
“If in more than 30 years presidents have not made official visits and have not seen each other, it is clear that there could not have been an economy between the countries. Especially since we clearly understand how Russia operated in Central America, how it continues to do so, and how much influence it has: in the information space, many different narratives. That is why I am truly grateful to the President for changing this. And I think this will bring results for both countries,” the President of Ukraine concluded.
