Ukraine and the United States signed a Memorandum on Transport Cooperation

The 2022 International Transport Forum Summit is taking place on May 18-20, bringing together transport industry leaders worldwide. As part of the event, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kubrakov and the US Secretary of Transportation, Secretary Pete Buttigieg signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

"We are sincerely grateful to our American colleagues for our country's steady and consistent support, particularly in its infrastructural progress. American partners are actively involved in developing the Kyiv Bypass project, providing Ukrzaliznytsia with modern General Electric locomotives, and American sea carriers cooperate with Ukrainian ports.

Today we can talk about the signing of the Memorandum as another piece of evidence of friendly relations between the United States and Ukraine, which will further deepen cooperation between the two countries. We understand that we have to work on the reconstruction of Ukraine now. Timely restoration of infrastructure is of key importance in approaching our Victory and is extremely important in the post-war development of Ukraine. We look forward to continuing the full support of our American colleagues in this matter.

Among the key results of the Memorandum are the renewal of the entire locomotive and car fleet by 2030, creating a high-speed rail system between large cities, and improving railway infrastructure, especially in large cities. Also in the field of our priorities in partnership with American colleagues to work on projects to modernize existing roads and install automatic weighing stations on them "- said Minister of Infrastructure Olexander Kubrakov.

The Memorandum also confirms the intentions of the parties to continue close cooperation on:

◾️ issues of airspace security and safe operation of civil aviation;
◾️ promoting commercial participation and private sector investment in the United States and Ukraine in commercial projects and participation in public procurement, exports of goods and services;
◾️ development and implementation of good quality and environmentally friendly aviation fuels and other clean technologies that meet high international standards;
◾️ use opportunities to promote digital technologies and cooperation to improve cybersecurity in transport, exchange information on new cyber threats;
◾️ collaboration in alternative fuels, electrification of transportation, use of market mechanisms, and technological progress to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector.
