The Naftogaz Group has signed its first agreement for the purchase of Azerbaijani gas with SOCAR Energy Ukraine, a company of the SOCAR Group. For the first time, test deliveries are being carried out via the Trans-Balkan corridor along the route Bulgaria — Romania — Ukrainian border.
This was reported by the Department of Integrated Communications of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
"This is a small volume but strategically important step that paves the way for long-term cooperation. It is also another example of diversifying supply sources and strengthening Ukraine’s energy security," said Naftogaz CEO Serhiy Koretskyi.
Naftogaz signed a loan agreement with UGB (Ukrgasbank) for UAH 4.7 billion. The funds are already being used to purchase natural gas to build up sufficient reserves in underground gas storage facilities.
In addition, the Naftogaz Group secured a UAH 4.7 billion loan from PrivatBank to form necessary gas reserves in underground storage ahead of the 2025/2026 heating season.
