The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has established an Interdepartmental Working Group on coordinating the implementation of Ukraine's Maritime Security Strategy. The government also approved the group's regulations and its personnel composition.

The group will operate as a coordination center, uniting the efforts of various ministries and experts. This will ensure a systematic approach to the implementation of maritime security policy and the effective execution of strategic decisions.

The key tasks of the group are:

  • Developing a procedure for monitoring the implementation of the Strategy and Government plans, as well as preparing suggestions for its improvement;
  • Analyzing problematic issues and developing solutions to address them;
  • Preparing proposals for improving legislation in the field of maritime security;
  • Coordinating the actions of state executive authorities, other bodies, institutions, and organizations on matters related to the implementation of the Strategy, as well as preparing proposals to increase the effectiveness of their activities.

The group will have the authority to organize expert discussions, involve specialists, and analyze the implementation of the Strategy. Its work may involve not only representatives of state bodies but also local government officials and independent experts.

Special attention will be given to international cooperation. The group will assist in studying the experience of leading maritime countries and establishing partnerships with international organizations. This will help implement the best global practices in maritime security and strengthen international support for Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defense will coordinate the group's work.

The Interdepartmental Working Group was created in accordance with the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on July 17, 2024, "On the Maritime Security Strategy of Ukraine," approved by Presidential Decree No. 468/2024. The group's meetings will be held at least quarterly, with the possibility of organizing online meetings to respond promptly to urgent issues.
