The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has strongly condemned Nicaragua’s decision to recognize the temporarily occupied territories as part of the Russian Federation, calling it an attempt to undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and announced the severance of diplomatic relations with the Managua regime.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly condemns the decision of the Republic of Nicaragua to recognize the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as well as parts of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions of Ukraine, temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation, as part of the territory of the Russian Federation. We regard this decision as an attempt by Managua to undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and as a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and fundamental norms and principles of international law,” the MFA stated.

The ministry emphasized that the recognition by the Nicaraguan regime of the so-called “subjectivity” of Russia’s occupation administrations in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Crimea is null and void, will have no legal consequences, and will not alter Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders.

The MFA also stressed that the Nicaraguan regime systematically and grossly violates the obligations it undertook in the documents establishing diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Nicaragua.

“By supporting the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine, attempting to legitimize the violent seizure of part of Ukraine’s territory, officially recognizing the so-called ‘DPR’ and ‘LPR,’ and opening an illegal ‘honorary consulate of Nicaragua’ in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Nicaragua has demonstrated political alignment with the aggressor state and direct financial and political dependence of the puppet Managua regime on Moscow. In response to such unfriendly acts, Ukraine declares the severance of diplomatic relations with the Republic of Nicaragua,” the MFA declared.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stressed that Ukraine will continue to respond as firmly as possible to any attempts to infringe on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“We will not allow any encroachments on our statehood and will take all necessary measures to protect our independence, security, and the inviolability of our borders,” the Foreign Minister emphasized.
