In Ukraine, there are plans to create a military police, with the main tasks including the prevention of military crimes and the maintenance of discipline among the military personnel. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Currently, a working group operates within the committee of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) on law enforcement activities. Its tasks include the creation of an optimal model for the future military justice system, of which the military police will be a part.

It is noted that the Main Department of Military Justice of the Ministry of Defense actively participates in the development of the draft law on the Ukrainian military police.

In the defense department, it is added that the military police is intended to become a military formation with law enforcement functions and will be integrated into the system of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The institution will be established based on the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It will assume certain powers related to operational and investigative activities as well as pre-trial investigations of military crimes (in conflict zones).

The purpose of establishing this body is to maintain military discipline among the servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense, and the State Special Transport Service. Currently, the draft law is undergoing the coordination process.

Additionally, the establishment of compatibility between the Ukrainian military police and relevant structures of NATO member states is envisaged.

Currently, the Armed Forces have the Military Law Enforcement Service (VSP). This specialized law enforcement formation is responsible for maintaining law and order and military discipline among the servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Additionally, the formation is tasked with preventing crimes and other legal violations within the Armed Forces of Ukraine and addressing them.
