The Netherlands has handed over an Alkmaar-class minehunter to Ukraine, with another expected to be delivered by the end of the year.
The news was shared by Vice Admiral Oleksii Neizhpapa, Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, on Facebook.
“Together with Odesa Regional Governor Oleh Kiper, I had the honor of meeting the delegation led by Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans and Chief of Defense Onno Eichelsheim,” Neizhpapa wrote.
The sides discussed the security situation in the Black Sea region and prospects for further cooperation.
Neizhpapa emphasized the importance of sharing experience in modern technological warfare to strengthen both countries’ capabilities. He expressed gratitude for the Netherlands’ significant efforts and productive cooperation within the framework of the Ukrainian Maritime Capabilities Coalition.
“The support of the Netherlands makes our Navy stronger and more effective in its fight against Russia,” the Vice Admiral noted.
He confirmed that Ukraine has already received an Alkmaar-class minehunter from its partners, with another expected later this year. Crew training is already underway.
“We value the assistance of our Dutch partners — together, we are stronger,” Neizhpapa added.
