Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion by Russia, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has codified and approved approximately 20 models of combat armored vehicles created according to the MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) principle for use in the military.

MRAP vehicles—short for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected—are a class of military equipment with enhanced ballistic protection. These vehicles feature a hull design adapted to disperse the energy from mine or improvised explosive device (IED) explosions, as well as specialized shock-absorbing seats for the crew and passengers.

MRAP vehicles consist of a capsule that protects personnel during explosions. The engine and wheels act as explosion-absorbing elements, absorbing all kinetic energy from the blast and maintaining the integrity of the module.

For the needs of Ukrainian defenders, approved MRAP vehicles include models produced by defense contractors from the US, the UK, Australia, Turkey, and other countries.

The Ukrainian military’s arsenal has also been enhanced by MRAP technology produced by Ukrainian defense sector manufacturers.
