Viktor Sokolyuk, a General Frontend Engineer at Master of Code Global, has created an app to help users learn Hebrew. This app has assisted his own son and thousands of others in effectively mastering the language.
“From the very beginning, the idea was to make it easier for beginners to learn the Hebrew alphabet. Even for someone who speaks two Romance languages, learning Hebrew is a challenge, starting with the alphabet,” he told dev.ua.
The app provides detailed descriptions, usage examples, and a final test for each letter.
“The goal was not to create the illusion of learning but to actually engage users mentally. Later, I added basic-level lessons and a thematic vocabulary with options to save words to ‘favorites’ and use the spaced-repetition method,” he explained.
Viktor handled everything from concept to design and implementation himself.
“It’s a pet project. Of course, it cost me only time; no funds were involved in development or promotion,” he noted.
Currently, the app is used by 1,550 users worldwide, with the majority from the United States. Initially, there was no monetization, but later, Viktor added ads and then a paid subscription.
“I didn’t aim for profit, so the earnings are purely symbolic. The greatest benefit for me is having learned the Hebrew alphabet,” he shared.
The app is available only for Android smartphones, with no version for tablets. It can be downloaded via the provided link.
