US and NATO allies to establish Patriot missile maintenance hub in Poland

The US government, in coordination with Lockheed Martin and European allies, has announced the selection of Poland as the location for a European maintenance facility for Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) missiles, according to a statement from the US Department of Defense.

The new facility is expected to build on strong transatlantic industrial cooperation, with Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden leading the integration of critical supply chains.

"Providing for the needs of our service members – anytime, anywhere – is how we deter our adversaries and strengthen collective defence. Today's announcement puts partnership into action. By investing national resources in establishing this critical sustainment capability on NATO's eastern flank, Allies are sending a clear message: the Alliance is united, serious about deterrence, and ready to back its words with action," said Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael P. Duffey.

The decision also supports the implementation of historic defence-industrial commitments made at the Ankara Summit in July 2026 under the "NATO 3.0" concept. It will accelerate efforts to strengthen regional resilience and provide European allies with additional capabilities to assume primary responsibility for their own conventional defence.

"By establishing regional maintenance, repair and overhaul capabilities directly within the European theatre, the Missile Maintenance Facility (MMF) will significantly reduce turnaround times and further secure critical supply lines. The regional facility will substantially enhance the operational readiness of NATO members' air and missile defence forces, enabling rapid reinforcement during crises and strengthening credible collective deterrence along NATO's eastern flank," the Department of Defense emphasised.
