U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Kyiv with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy. This is the first joint trip of diplomatic heads in recent years.

During his visit to Kyiv, Blinken plans to assess the situation on the battlefield and discuss Ukraine's needs for the coming weeks and months, considering the approaching winter, White House adviser John Kirby said in an online briefing the day before.

According to Kirby, the U.S. Secretary of State will "reaffirm U.S. support for Ukraine's efforts to defend itself and reclaim territory seized by Russia."

He also mentioned that discussions in Kyiv would address the advancement of President Volodymyr Zelensky's peace proposals.

"Undoubtedly, reaching a conclusion (to the war) through negotiations is the most likely outcome in this case. But when it will happen and under what conditions and circumstances—that will be decided by President Zelensky," Kirby added.

Blinken and Lammy are also expected to meet with senior Ukrainian government officials.
