President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone call with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau.
The interlocutors extended New Year's greetings to each other and discussed the issue of bolstering the security of Ukraine, which has once again been subjected to a massive air attack by Russia over the past two days.
Zelensky informed Justin Trudeau about the consequences of Russian strikes with missiles and "Shahed" drones targeting Ukrainian cities and villages. Civilian infrastructure was damaged in Sumy, Odessa, Lviv, Kyiv, and Poltava regions. There are dead and wounded civilians, including children. On New Year's Eve alone, Ukraine's air defense forces destroyed over 80 "Shahed" drones.
The President of Ukraine thanked the Prime Minister of Canada for his willingness to help strengthen Ukraine's sky shield, in particular by supplying additional NASAMS systems and missiles.
The parties also discussed work on security guarantees. They decided that the Ukrainian and Canadian teams would intensify bilateral dialogue shortly to reach an agreement.
The interlocutors also paid attention to the preparation of the fourth meeting of national security advisors and political advisors to the heads of state in the framework of implementing the Ukrainian Peace Formula. The meeting will take place in mid-January in Davos, Switzerland. Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Justin Trudeau and Canada for supporting Ukraine's efforts at the global level.
In addition, the Head of State expressed gratitude for Canada's readiness to continue defense and financial support for Ukraine in 2024. Zelensky emphasized that Ukrainian state highly appreciates every manifestation of support from Canada.
