Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that before meeting with him, U.S. President Donald Trump went over all 20 points of a draft agreement between Ukraine, the U.S., Russia, and Europe on ending the war with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“President Trump told me that he had a long conversation with Putin and went through all 20 points of the plan, point by point. It’s important that we are all on the same page and that they discussed this specific document, not some other papers. He said that Putin is ready. I don’t want to go into details right now,” Zelensky told journalists.
He added that he stressed to Trump that
“Putin has declared one thing before but acted completely differently in practice. It’s important that words match actions.”
President Zelensky also discussed with Trump the possibility of extending American security guarantees for Ukraine to 30–50 years.
“I raised this issue with the president (Trump). I told him that our war has already been going on for almost 15 years. Therefore, we would very much like the security guarantees to be longer. I told him that we would like to explore the possibility of 30–40–50 years. Then it would be a historic decision by President Trump,” Zelensky said.
He noted that current documents provide Ukraine with strong U.S. security guarantees for 15 years, with the possibility of extension.
According to Zelensky, Trump responded that he would take the proposal under consideration.
