What do the new tariffs from the USA mean for Ukraine?

"It's tough, but not critical" believes the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko.

Minister of Economy of Ukraine stated that for Ukraine, a general tariff of 10% will apply. There are no higher tariffs, like the 31% in Moldova or 20% in the EU, for Ukraine.

How much did Ukraine export to the USA in 2024? $874 million, of which $363 million was for pig iron, and $112 million for pipes.

On the other hand, Ukraine imported goods worth $3.4 billion from the USA.

Ukrainian tariffs on American goods are quite low — 10% on cars, and 0% on coal and oil.

"Therefore, we now have the chance to negotiate better terms — the U.S. statement clearly mentions this possibility. If everything remains as it is, the general U.S. tariff will mostly hit small manufacturers. That's why we are already working on getting better conditions for Ukraine," wrote Svyrydenko.

By her words, Ukraine export over 600 different categories of goods to the USA (very diverse, including even wrenches), 65 of which are worth more than $1 million each.

"Ukraine has a lot to offer the United States as a reliable ally and partner. Fair tariffs will benefit both our countries," wrote the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine.
