Iryna Vereshchuk: Those involved in deportation of Ukrainians will face international tribunal

Those involved in the deportation of Ukrainians will be tried by an international tribunal. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk during a telethon on the We Are Ukraine TV channel. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in the temporarily occupied territories, the russian invaders repeat the soviet practice of resettling people – deporting them under the guise of evacuation. And this is not the first time in history that such acts of genocide against the Ukrainian people have been committed.

“But this time they will bear the full responsibility for committing such crimes. You know that the European Parliament has passed a resolution that clearly states the need to establish a war crimes tribunal,” said Iryna Vereshchuk.

She also called on citizens in the temporarily occupied territories not to let the enemy mislead them.

“At the beginning of the full-scale invasion there were humanitarian corridors. Hundreds of thousands of people fled to the territory controlled by Ukraine through them. Now the occupiers do not allow the corridors to be opened. Instead, they are destroying civilian infrastructure and shelling residential areas. They make people’s lives unbearable and thus force them to leave, but only to the territory of russia. This is deportation and a violation of the Geneva Convention. Therefore, I emphasize once again: everyone will be held accountable for this crime, from an official who made the decision to deport to a driver who took our people away,” the Deputy Prime Minister summarized.
