An asteroid in the Solar System has been named after Ukrainian high jumper, Olympic champion and world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
According to the official asteroid catalogue published in the WGSBN Bulletin, the celestial body has received the official designation (57915) Mahuchikh.
(57915) Mahuchikh = 2002 EB110 Discovery: 2002-03-09 / CSS / Mount Bigelow / 703 Yaroslava Mahuchikh (b. 2001) is a Ukrainian high jumper and Olympic champion. After winning bronze at the 2020 Olympics, she claimed gold in 2024. Earlier that year, Yaroslava set a women’s high jump world record of 2.10 meters, surpassing a mark that had stood for 36 years.
The asteroid was discovered on March 9, 2002, at Mount Bigelow in the US state of Arizona as part of the Catalina Sky Survey project. It was initially assigned the provisional designation 2002 EB110.
The official naming citation highlights Mahuchikh's major international achievements, including her gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the women's high jump world record of 2.10 metres, set in the same year. It also mentions her bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Asteroid (57915) Mahuchikh belongs to the Jupiter Trojan asteroids, which orbit the Sun near Jupiter's orbit. Specifically, it is part of the L4 group, commonly known as the "Greek camp".
