A new monumental work by Lesia Khomenko, titled “Movement”, has appeared at Kyiv’s Central Railway Station, the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reports.
The artist created the piece directly in the Red Hall of the station, which was transformed into her studio for several weeks. Movement is a large painting measuring 21 by 12 meters and is part of Khomenko’s solo exhibition “Imaginary Distance”, which will open on August 28 at the PinchukArtCentre.
According to the artist, she was happy to work on this canvas. It depicts a group of people moving on an escalator in the central hall, which passengers use to descend from the railway platforms upon arrival.
“This work is about change and transformation—both the transformation occurring in our society during this historical period and the transformation of each individual so that we all endure,” Khomenko explained.
