The Metinvest Group of Rinat Akhmetov, the largest steel producer in Ukraine, has suspended operations at its coal mining site in the village of Pishchane near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region.
This is stated in a document published by the European stock exchange Euronext.
The suspension of operations occurred due to the approaching front line and increased shelling.
This site provided about half of Metinvest's total coal production in Ukraine. However, other key facilities of the Group continue to operate.
The site houses a vertical shaft (No. 3) of the Pokrovsk mining management and an administrative complex. It is noted that the Group has evacuated the main personnel and their families.
"Metinvest, together with the Pokrovsk City Military Administration and representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, is closely monitoring the security situation around the city and industrial locations. Decisions regarding the continued operation of all industrial sites will be made based on the evolving conditions at the front.," the statement emphasizes.
It is also noted that the full impact of the suspension of operations at this site is currently being assessed. No information has been provided regarding the closure of other mines of the company near Pokrovsk at this time.
