The main part of the weapons production of the Bulgarian defense-industrial complex goes to Ukraine.

This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Bulgaria, Todor Tagarev, in an interview with "Voice of America."

He also shared details regarding Bulgarian military assistance to Ukraine.

The head of the Bulgarian defense department noted that the support packages include old systems from Soviet times and ammunition, which, despite their age, are in good working condition and are already familiar to Ukrainian military personnel, requiring no additional training.

According to Tagarev, the Bulgarian defense industry operates "practically around the clock," and the main portion of this production goes to Ukraine, "directly or through third parties."

He explained that the defense-industrial complex of Bulgaria plans to continue producing ammunition of Soviet standards and intends to launch additional manufacturing capacities for NATO standard ammunition in calibers 155 and 105 millimeters.

To achieve this, several Bulgarian companies have applied for investments under the special program of the European Commission called "Ammunition Supply Action Plan" (ASAP). Under this program, the EU allocates funds to support investment projects aimed at stimulating the growth of ammunition and missile production within the European Union.

Also, by the decision of the parliament, Bulgaria has provided Ukraine with over 800 armored vehicles and is conducting several training programs. Among them is a two-month language training for Ukrainian sailors under the NATO program in Varna and Sofia.
