Ukraine remains the largest supplier of sunflower oil to European Union countries, although current shipments are lower than last year.

This is reported by the Union for the Promotion of Oilseed and Cereal Crops in Germany (UFOP), citing data from the European Commission.

From July 1, 2024, to February 2, 2025, EU countries imported around 1.24 million tons of sunflower oil, significantly less than 1.51 million tons in the same period last year, but still slightly more than 1.13 million tons in the 2022/23 season.

It is noted that imports have noticeably slowed. While weekly volumes in December were up to 59,000 tons, by early February, the EU was receiving just under 25,000 tons per week, according to the association.

To date, Ukraine has supplied 1.17 million tons of sunflower oil to the EU market, which accounts for a 94% market share. However, this is less than the previous year's figure of 1.4 million tons.

“The reason for this is the significant reduction in raw material supplies this season. This slows down processing and limits the export potential of sunflower oil from the country,” experts explained.

Serbia and Bosnia rank second and third among the largest suppliers with market shares of 3% and almost 1%, respectively. Export volumes here are also not approaching last year's levels.
