The historical cellars on Bugaevskaya Street are being reconstructed, turning them into a center of wine culture.

The historical cellars on Bugaevskaya Street are being reconstructed, turning them into a center of wine culture. Sketches of the future project were presented in January, and today new steps are already being taken to turn the idea into reality. It was said during an open meeting of the commission on the development of territories, urban design and architecture with the deputy of the Odessa City Council Alexander Ivanitsky.

It's no secret that this place is one of the most problematic on Bugaevka district, there is a rather tense criminal situation here. Five years ago, at the first meetings with local residents, the townspeople identified this place as one of the most dangerous in the community. We will correct the situation by turning it into an exhibition center - the wine-making museum

Now these cellars are destroyed, but once they were famous all over the world.

The owner of these cellars, Pericles Rodokanaki, was one of the richest inhabitants of Odessa at the end of the 19th century. Basements were built in 1896 to make classic champagne. After the death of Rodokonaki in 1899, his business began to decline, and his children decided to sell all the company. Before the Civil War in 1917, wine cellars continued to operate, but by 1918 they were completely looted and destroyed. And in 2007 he businessmen Fedor Glugan acquired ownership of the cellars.

According to Fedor the uniqueness of these cellars is that all year round the temperature inside is stable 12-14 degrees, which is optimal for wine production. Also, the cellars are absolutely dry, which is an ideal microclimate for the wine production and storage.
