The Mykolaiv region lost almost the entire corn harvest and half of the sunflower crop in 2025 due to drought.
This was reported by Vitaliy Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, during a broadcast on the Espreso TV channel.
"Because of the drought, we lost all the corn — about 400,000 hectares — and nearly half of the sunflower crop, which was a main crop. The drought has lasted for two years now, and this is a serious problem. The heatwave continues in Mykolaiv," Vitaliy Kim said.
He also mentioned that authorities are considering allowing grain trucks to operate during curfew hours to ease transportation issues.
"The situation is extremely difficult, and we have appealed to the government for assistance. We have engaged with the ministers of economy, environment, and agriculture to work on these issues. It’s hard for businesses, but we will find a way out of this situation," Vitaliy Kim added.
