Nowness released a short film titled Safe Light, dedicated to Ukrainian photographer Vic Bakin.
In Kyiv, Vic Bakin reflects on growing up amidst the war, photographing youth and queer subcultures for his photo series Epitome.
"His works explore masculinity and fragility against the backdrop of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine," says the video description on Nowness.
London-based artist and director Greg Bushell traveled to Kyiv to capture how the war has affected Vic Bakin and his creativity. The film showcases a collection of Vic Bakin's photographs, along with footage from Kyiv and Borodyanka.
The film is part of a series called Photographers in Focus.
"The film reflects on resilience and memory in a changing Ukraine through the lens of Vic Bakin, as well as the power of creativity to restore humanity amidst destruction," notes Nowness.
In November 2024, Nowness released a profile titled "Along the Lines", dedicated to Ukrainian artist Masha Reva. In the video, the artist and designer talks about her creative process.
