We invite you to the festive extravaganza this December at the Odessa Philharmonic! On December 10 at 19:00 we are awaiting the first Christmas cycle concert with the unsurpassed Valery Sokolov.
On the eve of the Christmas holidays, the orchestra led by Hobart Earle has prepared a series of concerts "Christmas Meetings - Odessa Violin Fest", which will take place on December 10, 17 and 24 with brilliant violinists - Valery Sokolov, Andrej Below and Jacow Pavlenko.
The programme includes works by Ukrainian composers - Triptych from the ballet "The Night Before Christmas" by Stankovich, "Elegy" by Lysenko, as well as a bright Violin Concerto by Khachaturian performed by Valery Sokolov.
The Ukrainian violinist, Valeriy Sokolov, is one of the most outstanding young artists of his generation. Working regularly with the worldâs leading orchestras, he has enjoyed collaborations with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Cleveland Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Rotterdam Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, NAC Ottawa, Orchester National de France and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. Vladimir Ashkenazy, David Zinman, Susanna Malkki, Andris Nelson, Peter Oundjian, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Vasily Petrenko, Herbert Soudant & Juraj Valcuha. Born in 1986 in Kharkov, Ukraine, Valeriy is one of the leading violinists to come out of Ukraine in the past twenty years.
The concert for Khachaturian's violin was dedicated to our compatriot, the most famous violinist in the world - David Oistrakh. During the Second World War, the concert was broadcast on all radio stations, and in the last years of his life, Charlie Chaplin called this work his favourite.
