Russian forces currently have a threefold advantage in troops and equipment, and on key fronts, they outnumber Ukrainian forces by four to six times.
This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
"August became a month of organizational changes in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The transition to a corps-based system is being completed, with army corps assuming their powers, receiving troop formations, and taking responsibility sectors. This reform is beginning to show results. Command and control of troops is becoming more efficient and effective. Currently, the enemy has a threefold advantage in troops and equipment, and on key concentration areas, they may outnumber us by four to six times. However, I express deep gratitude to our officers, sergeants, and especially our soldiers: their professional skills, resilience, dedication, and courage are thwarting the plans of the Russian occupiers," wrote Oleksandr Syrskyi.
In August, Russia aimed to gain a strategic advantage, achieve a breakthrough, and encircle Ukrainian troops in the Pokrovske-Myrnohrad agglomeration. Large-scale offensives were also planned on the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia directions.
However, the Ukrainian Defense Forces prevented these plans. Russian troops were forced to postpone their offensive in Zaporizhzhia and redeploy marine units to Donetsk.
In fact, the month in which Russian forces made their greatest effort for a breakthrough became a month of comparatively minimal territorial gains.
The Russian forces using “creeping” advances with small infantry groups, attempting to penetrate populated areas by exploiting inter-positional space and avoiding direct confrontations.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have achieved their own successes. In August, control was restored over 58 square kilometers of territory, and a number of settlements were liberated.
"During this period, 60 targets on Russian territory were struck using our Deep Strike capabilities. Russia’s capacity to produce fuel and lubricants for its army, aviation strike assets, missiles and UAVs, and air defense systems was weakened, and its transportation system was disrupted. Overall, our drones struck more than 67,000 enemy targets over the past month, and the effectiveness of the Middle Strike program increased by 25%," wrote Oleksandr Syrskyi.
In August , the Russian forces’ personnel losses amounted to 28,790.
Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 297,350 Russian fsoldiers have been killed or wounded.
