Russians have initiated construction on the territory of "Chersonesos Taurica" - an ancient city-monument and a UNESCO World Heritage site, as reported by the Union of Archaeologists of Ukraine.

"On the territory of 'Chersonesos Taurica,' Russian military builders are constructing a new amphitheater. These actions are carried out by the subordinate military construction complex of the Russian Ministry of Defense. They continue construction work to create a so-called historical-archaeological park and the destruction of the cultural and archaeological landscape," the Union of Archaeologists of Ukraine stated in a Facebook post.

According to their information, the work is being carried out on the orders of the President of the Russian Federation, with funding provided by the Russian "My History" fund.

As reported by Olga Rutkovska, a member of the public council at the Podil district state administration of Kyiv and former director of "UkrNIIproektrestavratsiya," "Chersonesos Taurica" and its surroundings were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013.

Earlier, in May 2023, UNESCO reported observing satellite imagery showing activity within the territory and buffer zone of the World Heritage site of the ancient city "Chersonesos Taurica" and its chorae (territories), including the construction of temporary structures and soil disturbances.
