On Thursday, October 12, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution recognizing the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. This information was reported by Ukrinform and also confirmed by President Vladimir Zelensky.
It is noted that today PACE adopted two resolutions - one in support of Ukraine and the other recognizing the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. Ukrinform reports that both resolutions were passed by an overwhelming majority of votes (70 in favor, 1 against, and 73 in favor, 1 against).
Vladimir Zelensky expressed his gratitude to PACE on social media:
"I am grateful to PACE for recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. Restoring historical justice and commemorating the victims of the Holodomor sends a clear signal: just punishment for all past and present crimes of Moscow is inevitable," he wrote.
Countries that have also recognized the Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people include: Italy, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Slovenia, France, Australia, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Brazil, the Vatican, Georgia, Ecuador, Estonia, Ireland, Canada, Colombia, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Moldova, Germany, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, the United States, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Iceland, Croatia, Slovakia, the European Parliament, and the Baltic Assembly.
